This was a wonderful morning safari. We heard there was a leopard sleeping in the large Sausage Tree (Kigelia africana) upriver. Once we got there we were greeted with this quintessential scene: a female leopard resting in the branches, with her paw tucked under her chin.
The photograph below entitled "In the Kigelia" is from the same sequence.

The Large Marula
When guiding in the 'Sabi Sands,' it is easy to be spoiled with leopards. You become so accustomed to seeing them, that you almost take them for granted. Jerry and I had guests staying with us for a three night safari, and during their stay the Ntsumi female was the only leopard around - not a single track or sign of another leopard was seen for three entire days. My guests jokingly suggested that she was the only 'tame' leopard we had, and it certainly made me think about how much we took sightings of these incredible cats for granted!
She had the remains of a bushbuck kill hoisted in a Jackalberry tree right on the bank of the Sand River. This photograph was taken after she left the Jackalberry to briefly quench her thirst down in the river, and then opted to climb a huge Marula tree to rest in its comfortable fork.
